Packaging Produce
Because we strive for zero waste, packaging your produce is a continued challenge! This is how it works:
• Each week, you will receive your delivery in what may be a mish-mosh of bags, boxes, plastic containers, and things held together with rubber bands.
• On the following week's delivery day, place any containers, clips, or rubber bands you are finished with at the designated drop off spot.
• When I deliver your produce the following week, I will pick up your old containers to be washed & sterilized for reuse.
This season produce will again be delivered either loosely (like zukes & cukes), bunched with rubber bands (carrots, beets, herbs, onions), or in recyclable, reusable plastic containers (smaller things like spring mix, beans, peas, small tomatoes, etc.). Herbs and flowers are delivered in water-filled containers to keep them at their freshest. All containers are BPA-free and are washed and sterilized before use.
A few items only deliver well in plastic bags, and I use a mix of (large) biodegradable, non-petroleum-based plastic bags, and (small) regular plastic 'bread' bags. If you don’t reuse bags yourself, you can throw them away, or you can return clean bags to be repurposed for other non-food things. I do not re-use any plastic bags for deliveries since they cannot be properly sterilized.
Your entire order will be delivered in either a wooden crate or reusable cloth bag. Occasionally you may get your order in a paper bag or cardboard box if I’m short on crates or re-bags.
